I received no response to my emailed question and the phone contact person did not seem well informed. I contacted FSC because they are refered to in USGBC Rating Guides but after my disappointing FSC experience I hope USGBC will widen its Forest Certification referals. Fortunately for me, The World Resource Institute sent me their excellent report on Southern Forests of the Future which does list several Forest Certification organizations, including the largest, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). I plan to contact SFI with regard to my upcoming visit to forests in the Mississippi Alluvial Valley for some guidance on how best to advcate for forest certification with the private forest corporations I will have the opportunity to meet.
