For some, the first snowfall has already come, but many of us are about to see the first flakes this week. Tom Haxby of Kingsley, Michigan submitted this picture of Pere Marquette State Forests covered thick in snow last winter. Although we’ll miss the beautiful colors of fall, we can’t help but love the festive holiday scenes of winter in the woods.

Foggy Winter WoodsMeanwhile in Canada, grizzly bears are making their way into hibernation. We are excited because this also marks the next phase of our research grant with University of Saskatchewan. The results of their field research will go a long way towards protecting at-risk grizzly and caribou populations and have implications on these habitats in boreal forest regions nation-wide.

What are you looking forward to for winter? Comment below and send your favorite wintery scene photo (high-res please) to us at info@forests.org. We could feature your photo next!
